The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong,
and responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
So what does that really mean?? Well….to me….
HONEST AND FAIR – I will tell the truth, even if it might get me in trouble. I will stick up for what is right, not for what is popular. I will do my job, because no one should have to do my share.
FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL – I will offer to help someone, because I appreciated getting help when I need it. I will pay attention to someone’s problem, because I may have an idea that can help.
CONSIDERATE AND CARING – By helping each other, we help ourselves, not to mention mankind. Be always full of help — the dying man’s last words.
COURAGEOUS AND STRONG – I will have the courage to stick to the rules even when it might not be popular. I will be a friend, even when my friend is not popular. I will try new things, even if I’m afraid, because I know my family, friends or (some of my) coworkers will help me.
RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT I SAY AND DO – I will talk out the problems I have with someone rather than start rumors or seek revenge. If I hurt someone by my actions or words, I will do my best to fix it.
RESPECT MYSELF AND OTHERS – I will treat other people the way I want to be treated. I will listen to other’s opinions, and not interrupt. I will not do something I am uncomfortable with just because someone else wants me to. And I will always say please and thank you.
RESPECT AUTHORITY – This starts at home. Practice it in your family. Enlarge it in your friends. Share it with humanity.
USE RESOURCES WISELY – I’ll the very best I can with what I have.
MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE – I believe in leaving this world a better place than it was when I entered it.
BE A SISTER TO EVERY GIRL SCOUT – How many Girl Scouts (current or alumni) can honestly say that they really observe this part of the law???? By my observation – not very many of the adults. That makes me sad.
The Girl Scout Law is something that I hold very dear to my heart. I endeavour every day to live my life according to its’ principals.
